The Cheshire & Wirral Area Team Opened the 8th Annual 'Sell-out' Conference in Chester this evening. Over 200 Conservative activists came together for Dinner, culminating in a Brexit Toast at 11pm.
All Constituencies and Councils were represented by MPs, Councillors and Association Volunteers from Wirral, Halton, Warrington, Cheshire West and Chester and Cheshire East. MP Fiona Bruce (Congleton) marked the start of the evening with Grace whilst speeches were provided by Edward Timpson MP (Eddisbury) and Dame Jacqueline Foster DBE. Guests were able to meet new MPs; Dr Kieran Mullan (MP Crewe & Nantwich) and Andy Carter (MP Warrington South). Graham Evans, Honorary President of the Conference, ensured a seamless progression of activities throughout the evening, whilst Andy Carter proved to be a skilled 'auctioneer' as a range of desirable items were sold to the highest bidders, in order to raise funds for future campaigning activity across the Cheshire & Wirral Area.
At 10pm, Guests were able to access via video-link the Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Brexit address and at 11pm, raised a toast as Great Britain officially exited the European Union.
It was the culmination of an extraordinary period in the UK's political history, celebrated alongside a mixture of relief that Brexit and the democratic mandate of the 2016 Referendum is now being delivered. So too, in the light of last December's General Election that gave Boris Johnson the majority he needed to move the Country on, there was a strong sense of responsibility "to deliver on the People's Priorities". As the Prime Minister stated in his letter to Conference; "The People who voted for us want change and we cannot let them down". (The Rt Hon. Boris Johnson MP, 31.01.2020)
