From August, Cheshire East Council’s ‘Little Bus’ up-graded service is to be extended across a wider area of the borough giving reassurance to its 600 regular users.
This will ensure that our Little Buses will be able to continue to provide essential day-time services for the elderly, for the disabled or people who have no access to a scheduled service.
These changes are the result of a full assessment by the Council of the likely impact of any revisions to the council-supported little bus network. As a result, the council’s cabinet has approved plans to revitalise the service, which is seen as a ‘life-saver’ for residents with special needs or living in areas of Cheshire East that have no access to other forms of public transport.
This initiative will enable people to live active, independent lives in their own homes and communities whilst reducing social isolation. These are important reasons for funding the Little Bus service and eligibility for accessing the service remains unchanged. Residents who are disabled, live beyond the reach of any scheduled service or who are over 80 years of age, are entitled to use Little Bus.
Following the strong preference expressed by the public during public consultations the core services will operate between 9.30am and 2.30pm and will be operated by the council’s own transport company Transport Service Solutions (TSS). As a result, Little Bus passengers can expect to see newer, high-quality vehicles operating across a wider area of the borough.
