A local Cheese Producing business has managed, with help from Cheshire East Council, to secure a £400,000 grant to boost expansion and create new jobs.
JS Bailey Cheese is based in Calveley, (near Nantwich) and has commenced a £1.5m growth project. This will create 15 new jobs and new production facilities.
JS Bailey was able to successfully apply for funding from the Rural Development Programme for England, with help from the Cuncils Skills and Growth Team, to help develop the business and boost the rural economy in South Cheshire.
The scheme will create improved packing and storage facilities on site so that the business can improve production processes and produce a greater volume of cheese for the home and international markets.
Councillor Rachel Bailey, leader of Cheshire East Council, took part in the turf-cutting ceremony to mark the start of the firm’s expansion project. She said: “I am passionate about helping our rural businesses to thrive across the borough. This project will provide a very welcome new jobs boost and help us grow our expertise and reputation as the UK’s premier centre of excellence for cheese manufacturing, home of the famous International Cheese Awards since 1897.”
