The Mansion at Tatton Park became the canvass tonight for an illuminated time-piece art work
illustrating a portal back to 1918 where telegrams, letters and care packages from 2018 were sent. This moving display was just one element of the evening where visitors could walk through the wood and watch cameo performances of soldiers and nurses from 1918. Local school children had engaged in workshops and activities that contributed to the time-piece illumination and singers from the Cantata Choirs of Cheshire performed a short presentation of some of the songs from Over by Christmas, with music written and arranged by Matt Baker.
Cheshire East Mayor Cllr Lesley Smetham welcomed all those attending and the key-note address was given by Mr David Briggs MBE, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire. Archdeacon Ian Bishop conducted a short service of commmoration before standard bearers on behalf of the Royal British Legion attended the extinguishing of the flame. This act drew to a close what has been an extraordinary four-year Cheshire East Reflects programme of activities and events created by Cheshire East Council and a host of other partner organisations, large and small, to commemorate the First World War.
