Sir Graham Brady MP closed conference today with a fascinating account of his role as Chairman of the 1922 Committee over the past few weeks in Parliament.
The MP for Altrincham and Sale West since 1997 and Chair of the 1922 Committee since 2010, Sir Graham Brady described how this Committee serves as the principle conduit for communication between Conservative MPs, the Prime Minister and Conservative Ministers. It was invaluable earlier this week as Conservatives debated Brexit , the separate motions that had been proposed and how best to move the process forward.
This followed a day of inspiring speakers including prospective parliamentary candidates Dr Kieran Mullan (Crewe & Nantwich) and Laura Evans (Wirral West) and Mr John Dwyer, the Conservative candidate for the 2020 Police & Crime Commissioner Elections. Fiona Bruce MP (Congleton) spoke candidly with Simon Eardley (Area Chairman) about the role of a back-bench MP, life in the House, Select Committees, Constituency work and her motivations for wanting to be an MP - to make a positive difference to the lives of her constituents.
Our current MEPs Jacqueline Foster and Sajjid Karim, spoke of the highs and lows of their careers in the European Parliament and Local Authority Leaders; Cllrs Ian Lewis (Wirral), Rachel Bailey (CEC) and Lynn Riley (CWaC) shared their thoughts as the Local Elections in May draw closer.
All in all, another valuable day for all those candidates, councillors, activists, volunteers, national party and association officers who attended.
