Cheshire East Council and Cheshire Fire & Rescue in partnership to combat unsafe parking at schools
As Road Safety Champion for Cheshire Fire Authority Cllr Margaret Simon (Wistaston Ward) had the opportunity to visit The Berkeley Academy, in Laidon Avenue, recently to take part in the ‘Safer Parking at the School Gate’ initiative. It is Partnership working in the community between Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Cheshire East Council at its very best. The pupils, (Cllr Simon’s grandson included), were thrilled to get the opportunity to meet the Firefighters from White Watch, Crewe and to climb up in to the Fire Engine that had been parked in the school playground, whilst officers engaged with children and parents, providing advice leaflets and using the ‘life-size’ figures of children to emphasise the importance of not parking outside school!
Cllr Simon has requested a date to take this to Wistaston Church Lane Academy next where Both she and Cllr Jacquie Weatherill, get complaints about inconsiderate and unsafe parent parking on a regular basis.
