New Year Floods Bring out Best in Poynton Community Spirit.
“Getting my waterproofs and wellies on was not at all how I expected to spend New Year’s Day. Poynton was just one town in the North-West hit by the New Year deluges and I’d like to say a sincere thank you to all who joined in to help save Poynton houses from major flooding. The community spirit demonstrated on New Year’s Day is something I will never forget. I could not be more grateful to be Mayor for such a caring place. It is such a privilege”.
CE Councillor and Poynton Mayor, Hayley Whitaker further explained how Poynton Town Council staff stepped up to help in practical ways including the provision of emergency flood defences. Volunteers who had seen posts for help online, came to the aid of residents, as did so many of the other town councillors.
She expressed thanks to Hickory's Smokehouse Poynton for providing hot drinks and to Helen White Kershaw for bacon butties that kept everyone warm and motivated.
Finally Hayley confirmed that; “Water levels are now dropping and hopefully we are through the worst. But just in case, please take some time to look at the Poynton Town Council’s step by step guide on what to do and useful numbers in case of any future flooding incidents: https://www.poyntontowncouncil.gov.uk/_UserFiles/Files/PUN%20Flooding.%20Be%20Flood%20Aware.%20Prepare.%20Prevent.%20Protect.%2019.04.21%20-%20WITH%20INTRODUCTORY%20COVER%20NOTE.pdf
Stay safe everyone.”
