Dr Kieran Mullan MP hosted a special event with the Rt Hon. Amanda Milling MP earlier today at a socially distanced venue in Crewe. Members and local business people from across the Constituency were able to hear from Amanda on the Conservative Party's vision to level up Britain, current Business Grant funding for SMEs and had the opportunity to ask questions in person.
Amanda was first elected as Member of Parliament for Cannock Chase in 2015, and currently serves as Minister without Portfolio and Co-Chairman of the Conservative Party.
She was able to hear first hand, how the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme has been successful in enabling local hoteliers, pubs and cafes to keep their businesses going and staff employed during August. However she was also able to hear how smaller ‘home-based’ businesses that have not qualified for the grants or for the CEC Discretionary Grant schemes are finding it difficult to keep going.
Other topics discussed ranged from the current planning consultation (see link below), to the imminent Devolution White Paper, plans for schools opening in September and aspects of life under lock-down. Amanda also had the opportunity to catch up with Mr John Dwyer (Prospective Police & Crime Commissioner Candidate).
The event was well-received and fine weather enabled the 24 attendees to meet outside where social distancing of 2m was easy to maintain.
