CEC joins Birmingham and High Speed Rail Industry Leaders as HS2 Minister Nusrat Ghani MP launches the “Joining Up Britain” jigsaw
The launch today in brilliant sunshine in Victoria Square, outside Birmingham Town Hall served to generate a strong message on the benefits of HS2, in particular improving regional connectivity and bridging sociocultural divides.
The jigsaw motif;
- Promoted a highly visual message “joining up Britain” to the North and North east, providing a key infrastructure solution to respond to a Brexit environment, connecting up to 30 million people, many of these directly through the proposed Hub Station at Crewe.
- promoted HS2’s key message for the year #HS2alltheway and countering any indication that it should be cancelled or curtailed.
- highlighted the integration of HS2 with Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) and Midlands Connect, demonstrating how HS2 works with and enables these two programmes (which in turn help secure the maximum benefits from HS2).
- Identified that the project at its height will provide 30,000 jobs and 2,000 apprenticeships.
HS2 Minister Nusrat Ghani MP unveiled the jigsaw together with Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street, Cllr Janet Clowes (CEC) and Cllr Ian Ward (Leader Birmingham City Council). They were also joined by a number of HS2 apprentices already working towards degrees and qualifications in engineering - essential for delivering the project over the next decade.
