HS2 Site Visits before Select Committee Petitions
On Friday afternoon Cllr Janet Clowes (Wybunbury Ward), accompanied residents and HS2 engineers through parts of Basford and Chorlton to the South of Crewe, supporting more residents preparing their evidence to present to the HS2a Select Committee next week. It was extremely useful to have the HS2 engineers attend who could see for themselves issues regarding where best to site a temporary water main - and why it does NOT need to remove a PROW. They also agreed that road verges of 4+metres were wide enough to bury new electricity cables without needing to compulsorily purchase a resident's garden. By the end of the exercise they had also agreed NOT to use a residential street for construction traffic and have agreed to provide solid acoustic barriers for the duration of parts of the project to protect residents from noise nuisance. We await appropriate letters of assurance in regard to these matters before Wednesday and Friday.
