Crewe & Nantwich Councillors and Conservative Members joined Dr Kieran Mullan today to deliver leaflets encouraging residents to sign the Petition calling for additional funding for the A&E Department at Leighton Hospital - National funding allocations for 2019 are expected to be announced in the Autumn.
Conservative MP Candidate Dr. Kieran Mullan launched the Petition last December following demands that an NHS quango get back into negotiation with hospital managers after they denied them extra capital funding.
Hospital managers put in a bid for a share of an extra £145 million made available by the Government to help hospitals over winter last Autumn (2018) but sadly, NHS Improvement denied the request. Dr. Mullan is encouraging people to back the campaign whoever they normally vote for.
“The Government makes this money available for good reason - because it knows services are under pressure. Leighton is under pressure and the hospital managers are very clear they they have need of the additional money. NHS Improvement needs to urgently go back into discussion with the hospital managers. Extra capital funding might sound technical but it can mean at busy times patients aren’t waiting in corridors on trolleys, that there are rooms for doctors and nurse to see patients - it can make a real difference.”
“Residents can sign my petition to support our community in getting the right response. This isn’t a party political issue.”
“Of course Brexit is dominating politics at the moment. But the public want politicians to carry on campaigning on other issues important to them as well.”
