On New Year’s Eve, a rallying call was made for assistance in collecting fresh food and re-distributing it through one of Congletons Food Banks; the “ Food Hub”.
With the help of staff at “Palletforce”, a van and driver were supplied and Mayor Sally-ann Holland (Congleton) set off to meet up with the team from “Food Hub” to lend a hand and collect the food.
The sudden request was the result of Cheshire East having to move into “Tier 4” restrictions. Local establishments like the “Bears Head” at Brereton suddenly had no customers to serve and larders of fresh food that needed a home.
The Bears Head got in touch to repurpose the food as it would have been terrible to throw the food away.
Leading the operation was Alison Cann and Shaun Radcliffe from “Food Hub” with Mayor Sally-Ann to lend a hand.
All the food was re-distributed to where it was much needed - a fantastic outcome and an excellent job completed by everyone, showing that the good folk of Congleton really do make a difference by “working together and for each other”. Despite the restrictions, the generosity of an affected business and the hard work of volunteers benefitted many on New Year’s Eve. Many thanks to all involved.
