Cheshire West and Chester Council’s 2024 garden waste subscription service will go live from Monday 8th January 2024. And this year the service will cost 25% more, increasing from £40 to £50 pa.Under the Labour/Independent 2023/24 budget, Cheshire East Council’s 2024 garden waste subscription service will go live from 15th January 2024. The service will cost £56 ensuring that CEC rates are still the highest in the North West!
Green Waste Collections are NOT a statutory service but high charges for the service contradict CEC’s alleged green credentials, undermine the business case upon which the green Waste Hub at Leighton Grange was commissioned, confuses the safe disposal of food waste (that previously could be put in the green waste bin) and leaves redundant green bins on driveways and gardens across the borough.
The Conservative Group’s request for this decision to be referred to full council for wider debate last Autumn was refused on the grounds that it was a policy that had already been approved by Full Council as part of the Budget in February 2023. (The Conservative Group did not support the Budget MTFS).
Unfortunately, this is only the first of the Labour-led secondary taxation policies that will be imposed on residents of Cheshire East in the coming months.
