The Cheshire Domestic Violence Project is one of three services provided by Cheshire East Council that have been announced as finalists in the national Municipal Journal (MJ) awards.
The Cheshire domestic abuse project is designed to help individuals fleeing abuse and facing complex challenges to find settled accommodation and move towards more stable lives. This initiative utilises an innovative way of working in partnership, involving the four councils: Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Chester, Warrington and Halton.
The service was shortlisted in the ‘Transforming Lives’ category which seeks to recognise councils who work with some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable people, and those with significant barriers to living independent lives.
Domestic abuse and sexual violence impacts the lives of many Cheshire East residents, families and communities, incurring substantial human cost with national figures showing that one in three women and one in six men harmed . In 2017/18 over 2,500 referrals were made to specialist domestic abuse services across the borough.
