Part of the A530 Middlewich Road has had to be closed as it required major repairs following a mains water burst that caused a culvert beneath the road to collapse. The road required both sides of the carriageway to be re-constructed, new walls to be constructed to support the new culvert to allow water to drain under the road. In addition the embankments on both sides of the carriageway needed stabilisation and underground electricity cables, exposed by the collapse, had to be made safe and protected for the longer-term. The Highways Team had predicted that the work would take at least eight weeks but managed to complete early.
